Winnipeg, Winnipeg.......snowy.......sleepwalking Winnipeg

YIKES....I must of watched the preview trailer for "My Winnipeg" at least a dozen times at SIFF this year. I know the trailer narration by heart! And now it's time to see the entire film. Yea! A great way to support SIFF (and SIFF Cinema) is with your presence this week for the Seattle premiere of Guy Maddin's "My Winnipeg"! After seeing that there's plenty of other great movies in town this week to go see. "The Mark of Zorro" is at the Paramount Theater on Monday night and whatever you do, make sure you catch that film, I promise that you will be amazed by the death defying stunts by Douglas Fairbanks that makes the climax to this film one of the greatest in cinematic history. It is a film that just cannot be missed! We're also cinematically blessed this week with screenings of Hal Ashby's debut film "The Landlord" and with two midnight screenings of "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". We've also got a pair of SIFF 2008 films making their return to Seattle this week: "Up the Yangtze" and "When Did You Last See Your Father?" I love film titles that are a question. I believe the correct answer would be "I last saw my father heading up the yangtze!"

BARGAINS OF THE WEEK:
$5 for all shows all week at the Admiral Theater (showing "The Counterfeiters")
$5 tickets for SIFF supporters at SIFF Cinema Tueday night ONLY for the 7pm and 8:45pm screenings of "My Winnipeg"

The Mark of Zorro - Paramount Theater (7pm Monday ONLY)
A legitimate silent era masterpiece from 1920, this is the first Zorro film ever. See this film the way it was meant to be seen: In a grand movie palace, with a great musician providing the film's score live on the Paramount's Mighty Wurlitzer.
From Wikipedia: "The character of Zorro first appeared in "The Curse of Capistrano", a short story by Johnston McCulley published in the magazine All Story Weekly on August 19, 1919. The story caught the attention of Douglas Fairbanks, who soon brought the swashbuckling hero to the silver screen in this film. The resounding popularity of this film prompted McCulley to publish 65 more stories featuring Zorro, which have since inspired countless film, television and literary adaptations throughout the world."

The Counterfeiters - Admiral Theater
Winner of the 2008 Academy Award for Best Foreign Film

The Animation Show #4 - Varsity Theater
Shorts package includes SIFF 2008 short "Hot Dog" by Bill Plympton
