Bumbershoot and SIFF Cinema collide this weekend. Don't lose your shorts!
A truckload of short subjects will be keeping SIFF Cinema's projectionists on their toes this weekend as the 1 Reel Film Festival runs Saturday through Monday as part of Bumbershoot. A free preview screening takes place Friday night (an RSVP is required) and you can sign up at seattlefilm.net if there's space left.
On Tuesday night SIFF Cinema is screening Leave Her to Heaven and whatever you do, if you've never seen this film on the big screen you just have to mark your calendar for this Tuesday at 7:30pm and be there. The BEAUTIFUL 35mm Technicolor print is one of the most gorgeous things your eyes will ever see. This film played SIFF Cinema last year during the first Noir City run (thanks Eddie Muller!!!) and folks were just amazed at how stunning Leon Shamroy's Oscar winning cinematography looked in this restored print. While the cinematography and the lucious Technicolor print are worth the price of admission alone, there's also Gene Tierney's (Oscar nominated) great performance as the woman who just loved way, way too much. And I mean wayyyyyy too much!
And on Wednesday and Thursday another movie makes a return trip to SIFF Cinema: Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey! Simply one of the greatest cinematic experiences ever created, and it just HAS to be seen on the big screen. There should be a law preventing people from watching 2001 on a small screen. We'll have HAL enforce the law.
Sooo...what other 35mm gems are in town showing on a big screen (where they belong) this week? The Northwest Film Forum is screening a NEW 35mm print of Network. The Grand Illusion is showing the classic western The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, the Egyptian is showing Raider's of the Lost Ark (Fri & Sat MIDNIGHT ONLY), the Metro is showing I Am Cuba (Wednesday 6:30PM & 9:15PM ONLY) and the Varsity has a new Japanese anime called The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Lots of wonderful films to choose from this week!
There are a total of zero return arrivals of SIFF 2008 films this week.
