Roman Polanski and Willie Wonka (how's that for an odd couple!) both visit SIFF Cinema this week!
Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory screens at SIFF Cinema this Saturday morning 10AM ONLY. Two Saturday's ago the Films4Families series got off to a great start! There was a big turnout and many happy children discovered how truly amazing The Wizard of Oz is when seen on a really BIG screen. To quote one little tyke: "Wow!"
This week SIFF Cinema also is playing the documentary Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired all week long. Support your SIFF Cinema and see it! :-)
For the first time since the end of SIFF 2008, there are no return arrivals of SIFF 2008 films this week, just the handful of films that have been playing for the past few weeks already (listed below)....there are, however, an amazing group of archival presentations this week that is absolutely tantalyzing. The rarest films in the bunch come to us courtesy of the Northwest Film Forum which is screening four great (and RARE!) 1960's Japanese action films that are NOT ON DVD (The Warped Ones, Glass Johnny, Velvet Hustler and A Colt is My Passport)....Arigato to NWFF for bringing us something we cannot see anywhere else, but on the big screen here in Seattle....and of course the Seattle Art Museum is spoiling us again this week with a 35mm print of another classic screwball comedy The Talk of The Town....we've also got 35mm prints of Stanley Kubrick's creepy film The Shining (midnight!), Chuck Heston as The Omega Man, and Hal Ashby's classic Shampoo in town as well as digital screenings of Raising Arizona, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) and The Last Laugh (1924). With cinematic choices like that it makes a movie fanatic very happy to live in Seattle! Yea!
